System Answers

1. What do I need in order to use pMDsoft?
Providers will need a compatible handheld device (see FAQ # 3).

Staff will need a computer (PC or Mac) with internet access and a current Web browser installed: IE 7 or higher, Firefox 3 or higher, or Safari 3 or higher.

2. I already have a Practice Management system, EMR, or EHR. Will I still be able to use pMDsoft?
Yes. pMDsoft is designed to work with any other system running the industry standard HL7 protocol, the same protocol used by most mainstream systems. Feel free to ask if we are compatible with yours. pMDsoft is also flexible enough to send and receive data via Web Services, reducing the time required to interface with compatible systems.

3. What handheld devices work with my pMDsoft?
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. (These devices also require a computer with iTunes installed. The iPod Touch and some iPads require a WiFi Internet access point as well.)
-or-
Recent BlackBerry devices with a keyboard; including the Bold, Tour, Curve, and Pearl. pMDsoft does not support the 8830 World Edition, which has been replaced by the Tour. pMDsoft works well on the BlackBerry Storm also, but we do not recommend buying that device due to feedback about its user experience that we have heard from our customers.

4. Does everyone in my practice need to have the same device?
No. Information can be shared by all users in a group, regardless of personal device choice. In fact, we have practices where nearly every supported device is in use!

5. Do I have to connect my handheld device to a computer to synchronize?
No. With proliferation of Wi-Fi and cellular broadband networks, the day of the "hard sync" is gone. Furthermore, synchronization does not require any user intervention! Thanks to our AutoSync technology, it happens unnoticeably in the background.

6. How long does demographic and visit information take to enter?
Entering demographics is easy! After a couple of weeks, a new user, who is also new to using his/her device, is able to enter a new patient in the same time it used to take to create an index card. Subsequent visits are often entered in 2 or 3 clicks, depending on the device.

7. How long does set up and implementation take, and what does it entail?
Setup: Typically, we set up our clients with an established patient list going back 3 to 5 years. This patient information will reside natively on every provider's handheld, as well as our servers. During setup, we also customize codes according to specialty, and import a list of referring physicians. We budget one and a half weeks for our clients to extract data, and another one and a half weeks for us to work on the data and import it.

Implementation: Implementing pMDsoft is smooth. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour of training per user, doctor and selected staff. A 20-doctor practice implementation can typically be completed in 2 days.

Yes, in the unfortunate event that something were to befall the computers in your office or data center, your pMDsoft data would be safe. We host and store all your data on our redundant servers.

5. How secure is my patient data over the Internet?
All patient data is transferred over a secure socket layer (SSL) connection to and from pMDsoft. In fact, we use the same technology deployed by online banks. SSL means that the information sent over the Internet is encrypted so that only authorized recipients can access it. We also encrypt the information found on your mobile device to prevent hackers or thieves from gaining access to sensitive patient information.

6. Does pMDsoft protect the privacy of my patient data?
All patient data stored with pMDsoft is the property of the customer. pMDsoft does not sell ANY of its patient data to third parties or use this data for its own marketing purposes. pMDsoft is HIPAA compliant.
